Holy Cross Today

Holy Cross Parish is part of the South Mille Lacs Parish Cluster. The clustering of parishes is a recent phenomenon in the Catholic Church and in our diocese almost every parish is part of a parish cluster (including the parishes in St. Cloud). Each parish in a cluster is an intact community in itself. The parishes in a cluster share the services of the priest(s) while retaining their respective loyalties and identities. In this new format Holy Cross Parish continues to flourish with its own unique history and faith-filled identity.

Onamia has grown in size to a population of over 800 people, many of whom have lived in the area their entire life. Holy Cross Parish currently has 175 families registered in the parish along with a seasonal/summer "family" of part-time parishioners. Since the early days, Hwy 169 has moved a bit to the east to its present-day location and has been expanded to 4 lanes of traffic. What was once "way up north" has become a "hop-skip-and-a-jump" for most and even a daily commute for others working in the Twin Cities Metro.
